Enchanted in Romance gave Fox in the Mist 5
unicorns:
Ms. Carey conjures very familiar fantasy
themes from the mist in this lovely tale of magic, chivalry,
friendship, devotion, and romantic love. I would not classify
Fox in the Mist as a romance per se, but as a fantasy with
romantic elements. And I use "romance" in the most general
sense. Druids and knights, Arthur and Merlin, a magic cave
where a priestess resides-all these themes evoke a sense of time
and place that will tug at any romantic imagination.
Our hero, Todd, and our heroine, McTavish,
or Tavi, share equal billing and are equally strong and likeable
characters. Carey charmed me with the character of Tavi, a
lovely ed fox, the "pet" of a crone, Dracha. Dracha brings Tavi
to the hidden mysterious cave of the Druid priestess Morgannia.
It's clear that Tavi is an integral part of a Druid ordination"
that will right the wrongs in the Scottish kingdom. Tavi has
always known she is special, and she finds out just how special
when she meets Todd, her soul mate. In a spell involving a tiny
magical unicorn, Tavi undergoes a metamorphosis that turns her
into an exquisite young woman.
Todd feels a draw to Tavi even in her fox
state and knows that their connection will be everlasting. Once
he sees Tavi as a woman, he falls deeply in love with her, a
compelling draw of body and soul. Todd is a very young man who
has searched his entire life for his true identity. Orphaned,
bitter, untrusting, believing himself to the son of the evil
King Evan of Scotland , Todd plots his revenge. He doesn't yet
understand his calling, his real parentage, and the connection
to his new beloved Tavi. Morgannia and Dracha make it quite
clear to the lad that he must concentrate on larger issues than
revenge and lust-the Druids have preordained him to rescue the
Moor Mists and the land of the Fey from the clutches of King
Evan. Carey adds another layer into the story with a host of
legendary characters-King Arthur and Merlin, knights Perceival
and Aaron. These characters pull the reader into the story more
fully.
A. Dee Carey has a flowing, somewhat
unusual style, and Fox in the Mist moves quickly. Her
descriptions are simply fantastic, and I had no trouble
picturing every single element-from the prancing of a tiny
unicorn to the thrilling sensations of a single romantic touch
to the idealized sweeping vision of Arthurian castles. The
romantic love is not physically consummated, and the story is
appropriate for older young adults as well as adults. I found
some of the plot a bit repetitive, but read nearly nonstop to
the end to satisfy myself that there would be a happy ending.
What a lovely, lovely book. I look forward to more unusual
magical tales from A. Dee Carey.

Fran Keighley, award-winning Wings
Author:
In FOX IN THE MIST Dee Carey has created a
thrilling. fantasy wherein appealing characters, both human and
animals, excitingly strive to oust an usurper and return the
rightful heir to the throne. The heroine is equally charming as
both a fox and a girl, the young hero has just enough
vulnerability. Now I want a fox! I want a tiny unicorn to
dance in my palm.

Jonathan A. Clemmer Wings-Press
author Horror/Suspense:
A. Dee Carey has created a mystical tale
that swiftly transports the reader back in time in an enchanting
age where magic is as real as the moon and stars are today. By
using fascinating characters than range from black-hearted
villains to innocent lovers, and from an ancient wizard to a
tiny unicorn, she draws one into a world both exciting and
faintly dreamlike. With extraordinary ease, she allows one to
see into the independent mind of a splendid little fox, which
makes the imaginative journey even more of a delight. Without a
doubt, when the last page of FOX IN THE MIST is turned, one will
certainly hate leaving the Realm of the Fey.

Kathryn Shay:
In FOX IN THE MIST, A. Dee Carey has
created an interesting blend of fantasy and romance, mixed up
with a bit of Arthurian legend. Her characters are unique and
likable (except for the villain, of course, who we love to hate)
as they interact in a myriad of relationships. The magical
elements are well done and her mastery of the craft of writing
shows through.

In the times of King Arthur, a false king
will take a throne, and he will plan the downfall of the Land of
the Fey. Between the false King and the Braided Bridge stand a
red fox, a young man, a Druid Priestess, and an old Queen. Each
has a part to play - a part that has been foreseen by the
Druids.
In an age of chivalry and treachery, a
love story unfolds amidst the battle to save the Land of the
Fey, a kingdom... And the hearts of a man and a woman.
FOX IN THE MIST is a story that in itself
could have come from the very mists of an ancient time. With
each word, I felt as though I walked in a land of long ago. If
you like fantasy romance that is truly touched with an ancient
theme, then this is the book for you.
